An African American father moves his sons to the free side of the country during the time of slavery in America.
The father a carpenter moves into Kansas and finds that there are no trees to build a house. They live in a dug out and the
father leaves the boys alone while he goes to search for land with trees. Severalmonths pass and the boys finally recieve
a letter that their father is settled and wants them to join him. They face many hardships on the way to find him.

I really enjoyed this book. If you are a reader and are looking for a book
that has action, suspense, friendship, and love this book has it all. Ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen and her best friend
Ellen Rosen are slammed in the middle of the war in 1943. The Nazis come down hard on the Jews of the area and Annemarie
Johansen goes the extra mile to help protect her Jewish friend Ellen Rosen from harm. Annemarie is put to the test when
it is up to her to save the secret mission by delivering a special package. This book is a must read. 
The Cotton Mouth Club- Lance Marcum
This is a great story about a boy that comes into adolescence and the troubles set
before him to get there. THe question is can he and will he conquer his fear to become a man or will he stay a boy.
All of this happens on a summer vacation to visit family.
The Mouse and the Motorcycle- Beverly Cleary
This is a great story of a boy who needs a friend and a mouse that needs an adventure. Poor Ralph Mouse
was going nowhere until a new family checked into the hotel that was supposed to be free from mice and the boy had a shiney
red motorcycle.
Run Away Ralph- Beverly Cleary
Ralph wants to be free from his family and set out on his own. In this story Ralph has an adventure
as he sets out on his red motorcycle to visit his friend at summer camp.
The Land I lost- Quang Nhuong Huynh,Vo-dinh Mai
The land I lost is a story about a man remembering his childhood in Vietnam. There was a sense of community
in his village and he recalls many adventures with his causin and the family waterbuffalo tank.
The True Story of the Three Little Pigs- Jon Scieska
This story has great illustrations and is the wolfs side of the story to The Three Little Pigs.
Why Mosquitoes Buzz in Peoples Ears- Verna Ardema
This story is a parable about the things that happen when somebody miss-communicates information. It
would seem to always end in tradgedy.
Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day- Judith Viorst
Poor Alexander what else can I say!!!!!!

This is a great Cinderella type story.
Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters- John Steptoe
This story is also a great Cenderella typr story full of illustrations.
Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock- Erik Kimmel
This story is a great parable. Teaching not to try and trick people into things because it might just
come back on you.
Lon Popo- Ed Young
A parable. Sometimes people don't learn until it's to late. Like the wolf in this story.
Where the Wild Things Are- Maurice Sendak
It's not good to go to bed without supper!!!!!
Abiyoyo- Pete Seeger
This is a sort of parable teaching also. The people that have been excommunicated come back in the end
to save the day.
Amazing Grace- Mary Hoffman
This is a story about a girl that believed she could be anything because of the support she got from her family.
Fanny’s Dream- Caraylyn Buehner
Fanny had a dream of marrying a prince, but because her fairy godmother was late she missed it. Instead
she found happiness through her husband that treated her like a queen.
Flossie and the Fox- Patricia McKissaak
Flossie meets a fox for the first time. The fox tries to convince her that he is a fox. Flossie doesn't
believe him and reaches home safely. Folktale.
Wiley and the Hairy Man- Molly Bang
Wiley out smarts the Hairy Man in this African American Folktale. A sort of David and Goliath story.
Dr. Desoto- William Steig
A story of a mouse dentist that out wits his patient the fox.
Perfect Pancakes if You Please- Wisel Egielski
Would you trade your daughters hand for a perfect batch of pancakes. This emporer did and it got him
onto trouble.
The boy who looked like Lincoln- Mike Reiss
Censorship thats all I can say, but it has a good moral.
The Emperors Old Clothes- Lasky/ Catrow
This story proves that we don't have to dress up and be something that we are not for people to respect us
for who we are.
I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More- Karen Beaumont
This melodic book provides great entertainment for a read aloud. it is full of color and excitement.
